There are many different styles of yoga, but most combine physical postures, breathing techniques, meditation and relaxation with an aim of increasing self-awareness and harmony within the mind and body.

With it’s holistic, mind-body approach Yoga has become increasing popular within the West and can be tailored to meet the needs of athletes to pregnant mothers, tailored for relaxation and reduction of stress or for injury prevention and rehabilitation.

Our CPD Certificate Part 1 and Part 2 in Clinical Yoga is designed for those who are looking to use Yoga techniques and physical postures professionally within Massage Therapy, injury treatment pre-hab and rehabilitation.

Our course is open to Sports and Massage Therapists, Sports Therapists, Osteopaths, Chiropractors, Physiotherapists, Rehabilitation Therapists as continued professional development.

Our Clinical Yoga CPD course is now available as a Fully Online accredited course.

This means that you can complete the course in your own time and can re-visit the course content as often as you like (as you will receive lifetime access).

This course is accredited by the FHT and the STO and provides 16 hours of CPD points for each Part.

(Part 1 – 16 CPD points and Part 2 provides an additional 16 CPD points).

Course Design

This course incorporates both theory and practical work along with a final assessment for each level.

This course is taught in two parts. Part 1 and Part 2 form an independent accredited CPD course of 16 hours. Both parts are delivered as an accredited online course. 

Accredited by the Federation of Holistic Therapists and the Sports Therapy Organisation

Part 1 must be completed prior to part 2.

Clinical Yoga Part 1 outline:

 

Clinical Yoga part 1, covers a variety of beginner level poses and techniques which will aid full body movement, strength, flexibility and balance awareness, all of which will be linked to postural awareness and education. Movements within a range of anatomical planes will be covered to provide a balanced and full body, functional movement approach.

Breathing techniques to both energise and relax the body will be explored, along with bandha engagement and drishti focus.

Skeletal anatomy and physiology will be reviewed, along with progressions and adaptations to suit a range of needs.

Physiology of stretching will also be reviewed along with methods for manipulating stretch modalities. 

This course incorporates both theory and practical work. You can listen to theory content and also down load a copy of all course material to include: articles, power-points, the course manual and watch video demonstrations.

You will gain lifetime access to the online platform, so that you can revisit course content as often as you would like to.

 

On completion of this course you will be able to Yoga Postures as part of your clinical aftercare work, and can use yoga postures within a 1-2-1 clinical yoga class for rehabilitation purposes from injury or for sport specific needs. 

Assessments: 

Two assessments will be required to check learning on completion of course delivery, which include delivery of a practical session and the design of a 1-2-1 clinical yoga session for a specific injury or condition.

Clinical Yoga Part 2 outline:

 

Clinical Yoga part 2, will introduce further beginner and intermediate yoga postures that can be used for a range of purposes.

Yoga sequencing will be introduced to include variations of the sunsalutation warm up sequence and vinyasa flow. These sequences will be linked with breathing, bandha and drishti techniques.

Class design and planning for small groups will be introduced and discussed in relation to a range of needs, such as pre-hab, rehabilitation from injury, maintaining and developing full body flexibility, functional strength and balance, stress reduction and relaxation.

Specific populations such as Yoga for athletes, the older person and injuries such as back pain will also be discussed.

Yoga for relaxation and conditions such as stress and anxiety will be introduced along with an introduction to meditation and pranayama.

This course is designed to ensure progression of teaching skills from Clinical Yoga part 1, to manage and design small group classes and to address the needs of different clients.

On completion of this course you can offer small group Clinical Yoga classes which are designed to aid injury treatment and rehabilitation for specific needs, or sport specific requirements.

Course Tutor

Taught by Dawn Morse BSc, PGCE, MSc

Dawn has a Masters Degree in Sports and Health Sciences, is a qualified teacher and is a Sports Massage Therapist.
Dawn was the programme leader for the University of Bath Sports Therapy Foundation Degree and lectured on the BSc programme for 9 years and is currently an associate lecturer for the Open University.

Dawn is also a qualified Yoga teacher, and a senior memeber of Yoga Alliace Professionals, and has been teaching regular yoga classes for over 14 years.

Dawn has taught a variety of yoga classes from traditional Ashtanga Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga, Hot Yoga, Mother and baby yoga, and childrens yoga, along with yoga based workshops and Day Retreats.
Dawn is the founder of Core Elements which provides regular training courses in Sports Massage and Sports Therapy modalities.

Entry Requirements & background

 Course applicants must be 18 years old or over and must hold a minimum of Sports Massage Therapy or Massage Therapy qualification.

This course is also open to Sports Therapists, Physiotherapists, Osteopaths, Occupational Therapists, Chiropractors, Rehabilitation Therapists and  Sports Scientists.

Students in year two or above studying Physiotherapy, Osteopathy or Chiropractic are also welcome to study this course, along with Pilates instructors, Yoga teachers and Personal Trainers.

Prior to the course:

 We recommend that you attend a minimum of 6 yoga classes to familiarise yourself with Yoga postures and a range of class formats prior to starting Part 1 of this course.
